Mary Alice Bennett

Alice is a member of the Liberty County Melting Pot of Art whose interest in art began in high school and has continued throughout her life. She earned a BA in Art from Valdosta State College in 1969 and later continued her studies through Georgia Southern University in affiliation with Armstrong State College, earning a master’s degree.

During her teaching career, Alice taught first grade and later served as a curriculum specialist and assistant principal at Richmond Hill Primary School. While teaching, she continued studying with many artists and discovered watercolor as her favorite medium.

Mary Alice has been active in several arts organizations, including the Statesboro Regional Art Association, where she served as past president, and the Averitt Center for the Arts, where she worked in pottery and watercolor. In 2020, she received the Averitt Center Roxie Remley Award in the SRAA Annual Juried Exhibition.

She is also a member of the Georgia Watercolor Society and earned signature status in 2022. Her watercolor work has been shown in GWS exhibits and at the Georgia National Fair in Perry.
